THE STORY OF “UGLY!”
“UGLY! A Christmas Sweater Story” was born as “Ugly Christmas Sweater, The Musical”, and had its debut as a staged reading at the legendary Don’t Tell Mama Cabaret in NYC. After that, it was chosen for the New York Musical Festival, the Theater Resources Unlimited New Voices Reading Series, and the New York New Works Festival. But then, as time passed, it found itself looking for a home for Christmas, just like Cazz the Christmas Sweater.
Then suddenly, on one snowy Christmas Eve, the author (me) had an inspiration. He could make the play even cooler… make it crazier… make it UGLIER! And so the journey began… a rewrite! A reboot! A makeover! Even a new title! So, the new and shiny version of this Christmas pop culture wild child came into being—as “UGLY! A Christmas Sweater Story”!
And now you can see the first presentation of this new incarnation, in a special condensed form, at the CreateTheater New Works Cabaret, on Thursday, November 20 at 9:30pm, at The Laurie Beechman Theatre on 42nd Street in NYC. And if you can’t make in person, there’s also a LIVESTREAM!
THIS CHRISTMAS, UGLY IS THE NEW BEAUTIFUL!
